Too Many Ideas

I had taken quite a long break from my book before this, but now that I’ve opened that channel of creativity again with reading, writing and researching it’s literally opened a flood gate of ideas I feel like had been stuck in my mind.

Is there such a thing as too many ideas? Possibly. I started a list on my phone to hopefully keep track of them all as they come. Not that they’re in any particular order, but at least they are put down somewhere other than my head.

I had an amazing idea for another book on my way to pick my daughter up from school today. The funniest part was that it spun off of a different idea, I’d had about a year ago that wasn’t even really writing related at all. It amazes me how inspiration strikes so randomly at times.

I have heard of writers working on more than one book at a time. I’m just not sure that I would enjoy that. I have a hard enough time keeping the details straight from the beginning of the book I’m working on, I don’t want to have to keep two completely different sets of details separate and in order. So I’ll just keep my notes in my phone or on random pieces of paper that will inspire me all over again in a few months when I’m more ready for it.

There’s also the poems. I don’t mind working on those at the same time as a book simply because they aren’t nearly as involved. I’ve been thinking about posting some of them. Maybe someday I’ll publish a book of poems.

What do you do to keep track of your ideas and thoughts? Are you writing them down in order to actually remember them? Maybe you’re just lucky enough to have an amazing memory!
